Marathon Training Log

Saturday Nov. 8
20 mile run, about 2 hrs. and 40 min.
Ran with Ian, early morning, felt good until around one hour 45 minutes, finished with no injury.

Monday Nov. 10
Day off in class

Tuesday Nov. 11
5X1000 at about 4 minutes and ten seconds each

Wednesday Nov. 12
Run 20 minutes in class

Thursday Nov. 13
easy two miles, five miles at tempo, finish with an easy one mile around campus and surrounding neighborhoods.

Saturday Nov. 15
12 miles easy recovery up to Hardin-Simmons and around campus

Monday Nov. 17
4 miles

Tuesday Nov. 18
1 Hour run

Wednesday Nov. 19
20 minutes in class

Saturday Nov. 22
feeling a little sick the day before, so instead of a long run, just ran the loop around campus easy

Sunday Nov. 23
planned on going 22 miles, but because of the wind, ran almost fifteen and had to stop.  Didn't feel so great!

Monday Nov. 24
25 minutes easy in class

Tuesday Nov. 25
track 6X400 and then finished the loop around school

Wednesday Nov. 26
4 miles in about 30 minutes on the treadmill (in Albuquerque)

Friday Nov. 27
6 miles in 45 minutes, didn't feel great through most of the run, but no injury (in Albuquerque)

Sunday Nov. 30
12 miles in one hour and 38 minutes (in Albuquerque). Ran some hard hills, but felt really good and finished strong.

Nov 27 - showed up late for the Turkey Trot in Dallas, so my girlfriend and I ran a pseudo-Turkey Trot around whiterock lake (8, or so, miles) ... felt really good 

Nov 29 - ran 4 miles at whiterock lake ... didn't feel so good after feasting on turkey and stuffing

Marathon in San Antonio

Sunday November the 16th I ran my marathon in San Antonio Texas.....
I've never been around a marathon so this experience was totally new for me. This was the first time Rock and Roll Marathons had hosted a race in San Antonio and it was a record setter with over 33,000 in attendance. The weather the morning of the race was perfect, by about 9 o'clock the temperature was in the 60's and everyone had shed off any extra layers they had on. I started off the race with a nice pace and was able to keep on track the majority of the time. Around mile 10 the leader passed by us going the other direction towards the finish line, he was on mile 21 approximately. It was at this time I realized my chances for winning the marathon were not looking good..... the winner ended up finishing in 2 hours and 14 minutes (ruffly 5 minutes a mile). Around mile 17 is when I really started to feel the effects, it was at this time that I began to take walk breaks. I kept a good pace between walk breaks up until mile 22, which is when I hit "the wall." I was under the impression that this was the point in the race when you feel like you don't have the energy to run any longer, but what I learned is this is when your legs feel like they're on fire! My hip flexors, knees, ankles, and arches we're all pleading with me to stop and lay down. The only conclusion I have for this is that I should have begun the walk breaks at the beginning of the race, not mile 17. I ended up walking 2 of the last 5 miles just praying that my legs wouldn't give out on me! I finished the race in around 4:30 hours. My overall goal was to finish the marathon, which I accomplished and am pleased with. Of the 33,000 runners, only 7,200 finished the full marathon and the average time ranged from 4:30 to 4:45. At the end of the day I was extremely proud to have finished the marathon and felt good about the effort I put out during the race. I wouldn't be suprised if another marathon is somewhere in my future. Good luck to ya'll in Dallas on the 14th!

Saturday Nov. 8th - Ran 8 miles in preperation for my marathon the following week.

Saturday Nov. 15th - Drove down to San Antonio and spent the evening resting for my marathon the following day. Strethched for 1 hour

Monday Nov. 10th - Ran mile in class for time
Tuesday Nov. 11th - Ran 6 miles around campus
Wednesday Nov. 12th - Ran in class
Friday Nov. 14th - Spent 1 hour stretching

Monday Nov. 17th - Rested from marathon the day before
Wednesday Nov. 19th - Continued to rest from marathon
Friday Nov. 21st - First run after marathon, short 2 miles, legs felt great.

Training.

saturday 11/8- ran 14 miles. (3 hrs. approximately) this is when my knee really started to hurt. 
took this week off to heal my knee from 11/9-11/14
saturday 11/14- ran 11 miles. (approximately 2 1/2 hrs.) knee started to hurt again so i stopped.
monday 11/17- saw trainer today...bicycle 30 mins and leg raises to build strength. 
tuesday 11/ 18- swam laps for 45 mins, stretched, ice, leg exercises. 
wednesday 11/19 iced knee. leg exercises. (knee starting to bother me more...)
thursday 11/20 iced knee. leg exercises.
friday 11/21 iced knee. leg exercises.
monday 11/24- bicycle for 45 mins. leg exercises. iced knee.
